TEACHING SUBSTITUTE APPLICATION PROCESS

The Pembina Trails School Division will accept applications for the Substitute Teacher list, however; we are not actively recruiting new substitutes at this time.

Message for new graduates: When applying for Criminal Record check and Child Abuse Registry checks it is recommended that you obtain several originals because you will need to provide one original to the Department of Education and an original to Pembina Trails School Division when applying to the substitute list.

Substitute teacher application forms must be completed in person at our Administration Office located at 181 Henlow Bay. Please refer to our Substitute Application Checklist to assist you.

It is the policy of Pembina Trails School Division that all applicants submit a Criminal Record Check, evidence of clearance from the Child Abuse Registry and Social Insurance Number verification. An offer of employment with Pembina Trails School Division is conditional upon receiving this information. Only originals or true verified copies will be accepted. Once these documents are submitted to the Pembina Trails School Division, they become the Division’s property and must not be duplicated or photocopied under any circumstances for security and confidentiality reasons.

Criminal Record checks must be obtained through the Winnipeg Police Service (Bureau of Police Records) at the Public Safety Building, 151 Princess Street, Winnipeg MB (phone 204-986-6073). For more information please visit their website at http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/pr/info_request.stm . The fee for a Criminal Record Search is $42.50 (subject to change).  This cost includes an additional five certified copies upon request.  If you are unable to obtain a Criminal Record Check from the Winnipeg Police Service, please provide a certified Criminal Record Search from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Child Abuse Registry checks can be obtained either:

  • through Pembina Trails School Division.  Child Abuse Registry forms are available at the reception desk at 181 Henlow Bay, Winnipeg MB. There is a $15.00 fee which must be paid at the time of application by Visa, MasterCard, cheque or money order (payable to the Minister of Finance).  Child Abuse Registry checks processed by Pembina Trails School Division become the property of the Division and are not returned to the applicant

 

Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks provided with a substitute application must dated within a 12-month period from the date of application/hire. There will be no exception to this rule.

Social Insurance Number verification - All new employees, including substitutes and casuals, are required to provide their Social Insurance Number card OR the header of their last tax assessment from CRA to verify their SIN.   These will be copied and added to the substitute teacher application.


Pursuant to Section 41 of the Public Schools Act, the Pembina Trails School Division has a duty to ensure that each pupil enrolled in one of its schools is provided with a safe and caring school environment that fosters and maintains respectful and responsible behaviours.  This information is being collected as part of Pembina Trails School Division’s duty.  Personnel files in Pembina Trails School Division are maintained according to Policy GBJ.

By applying on-line, you are consenting that the Division may contact your current and previous supervisors.

All employees of the Pembina Trails School Division are required to produce the following documents as a condition of employment:

  • Criminal Record Check from the Winnipeg Police Services or RCMP (completion of the Vulnerable Sector Screening portion is required)
  • Evidence of clearance from the Child Abuse Registry
  • Pledge of Confidentiality prior to employment commencing
  • Verification of a valid social insurance number.
  • Educational Assistants must produce a copy of their Grade 12 diploma or transcript of marks prior to employment commencing.

Criminal Record Checks must be obtained through the Winnipeg Police Services, Public Safety Building, 151 Princess Street (ph: 204-986-6074) or go to the "Police Records" section on their web site at http://www.winnipeg.ca/police for further information, including hours of operation.  For out of town residents please contact your local RCMP Detachment.

Child Abuse Registry applications and Pledge of Confidentiality forms are available at the reception desk at the Pembina Trails School Division's Administration Office. Two pieces of identification are required to complete the Child Abuse Registry application and Criminal Record Check.

Social Insurance Number Card Verification: All new employees, including substitutes and casuals, are required to provide a photocopy of their Social Insurance Number Card OR a photocopy of the header of their last tax assessment from CRA to verify their SIN.

By submitting your on-line application to us, you certify that all statements made in this application are correct and that you understand that the Pembina Trails School Division may conduct a personal investigation and you hereby give your consent in accordance with the Personal Investigation Act to such personal investigation being conducted by the Pembina Trails School Division in connection with this, your application for employment.
