TEACHING SUBSTITUTE APPLICATION PROCESS

Pembina Trails School Division will accept applications for the Substitute Teacher list, however; we are not actively recruiting new substitutes at this time. All applications will be held on file until the next interview period.

Interviews for substitute teachers will be conducted in August for the upcoming school year. All applicants who submitted complete applications during the school year (August to June) will be contacted to determine interview eligibility.

Message for new graduates: When applying for Criminal Record check and Child Abuse Registry checks it is recommended that you obtain several originals because you will need to provide one original to the Department of Education and an original to Pembina Trails School Division when applying to the substitute list.

Substitute teacher application forms must be completed in person at our Administration Office located at 181 Henlow Bay. Please refer to our Substitute Application Checklist to assist you.

It is the policy of Pembina Trails School Division that all applicants submit a Criminal Record Check, evidence of clearance from the Child Abuse Registry and Social Insurance Number verification. An offer of employment with Pembina Trails School Division is conditional upon receiving this information. Only originals or true verified copies will be accepted. Once these documents are submitted to the Pembina Trails School Division, they become the Division’s property and must not be duplicated or photocopied under any circumstances for security and confidentiality reasons.

Police Information Checks can be obtained online or through the Winnipeg Police Service (Bureau of Police Records). For more information please visit their website at https://policeinformationcheck.winnipeg.ca . Online checks should be shared with Pembina Trails School Division – Teaching HR. Applicants are required to complete a vulnerable sector search as part of their police information check. If you are unable to obtain a police information check from the Winnipeg Police Service, please provide a certified Criminal Record Search from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Child Abuse Registry checks can be obtained from the Child Abuse Registry Unit - Child Protection Branch on the 2nd Floor - 777 Portage Ave (204) 945-6967. Please visit their website at https://www.gov.mb.ca/fs/childfam/child_abuse_registry_form.html

Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks provided with a substitute application must dated within a 12-month period from the date of application/hire. There will be no exception to this rule.

Social Insurance Number verification - All new employees, including substitutes and casuals, are required to provide their Social Insurance Number card, header of their last tax assessment from CRA, or documentation from CRA to verify their SIN.   These will be copied and added to the substitute teacher application.


Pursuant to Section 41 of the Public Schools Act, the Pembina Trails School Division has a duty to ensure that each pupil enrolled in one of its schools is provided with a safe and caring school environment that fosters and maintains respectful and responsible behaviours. This information is being collected as part of Pembina Trails School Division’s duty. Personnel files in Pembina Trails School Division are maintained according to Policy GBJ.
